“You don’t have to be like everyone else. It’s okay to be you.” Blossom the cow
Those words, the essence of what they mean, speak to my heart. The words of wisdom come from one of my beloved children’s book characters: Blossom, a spirited cow with a definite mind of her own.
I have done many things in my life and have worked at many different jobs. Being a writer is truly who I am, though. This is where I can let my imagination run free. This is how I can share with the world my love for creating characters, helping them face conflicts in life, and giving them happy endings.
I have been writing since I was a teenager, but have taken it seriously in the last few years, writing under my name, Starla Criser. I have been publishing under another pen name for seventeen years in other genres.
As Starla Criser, my writing focus is on relationship stories about mature adults over age 55. Currently I have one published anthology of such stories, Timeless Love. I am in the process of writing a series of novels, The Not Dead Yet Travel Club, which will revolve around four women friends who travel together and face unexpected changes coming in their lives.
Most recently I have added writing children’s stories to my writing career. My first such stories are part of the Blossom Series. They include A Family for Blossom and Blossom Sings with Her Friends.
Outside of the writing world, I volunteer in my Kansas community with several senior adult groups. I also make art quilts, mentor other writers, and travel every chance I get.
